Of course, sipping warm milk has long been touted as a cure for insomnia, but these versions take that concept to the next level. In addition to being dairy-free, many of the concoctions call for a variety of slumber inducing herbs—especially ashwagandha, an ingredient that’s been used for thousands of years in Ayurvedic medicine thanks to its ability to relieve stress, fight inflammation and lower blood sugar levels, among other health benefits.

Inspired by one of the recipes making the online rounds, holistic health coach and blogger Alicia Uhl of theplantie.com created this version, which she says helps calm and relax the body before bed. “It’s also my favorite tonic to drink during my menstrual phase due to the pain-relieving properties of the tart cherry juice and the dried roses,” she adds.
Pink Moon Milk Tonic Recipe
Yields 1 serving

3/4 cup cashew milk
1/2 cup organic tart cherry juice
1/2 tsp. organic ashwagandha powder
1/2 Tbsp. maple syrup
Organic culinary dried roses
Combine cashew milk and cherry juice in a small saucepan and warm over medium heat. Once it starts to boil, turn off heat and whisk in ashwagandha powder and maple syrup. Pour mixture into a blender and blend until frothy. Top with culinary dried roses and serve.
