Golden Door has revealed its new look after a multi-million dollar renovation that included a complete overhaul of the bathhouse and pools and enhancements to the gyms and all forty guest rooms. San Diego-based designer Kristine Smith oversaw the project, aiming to find a balance between traditional bathhouses and modern spaces while keeping true to Golden Door's rich history and traditional ryokan-inspired Japanese aesthetic.

The bathhouse had the entire layout reworked, adding private dressing rooms, new tile, flooring, a new Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. The Jacuzzi area has a brighter design that evokes nature through lighting and a visual healing space that features time-lapse captures of nature directed by artist and filmmaker Louie Schwartzberg.
Other new amenities to the bathhouse include a soaking tube in a warm cherry blossom bath used for its high antioxidant and skin soothing benefits or a cold mood-boosting plunge soak with Epsom salts to benefit faster muscle recovery, better sleep and enhance the immune system.
The new wet room includes a 7-hose Vichy shower that can be experienced with body scrubs and treatments. A LightStim LED experience room features a full-body treatment that helps to accelerate recovery, relieve pain, increase blood circulation and restore balance for optimal skin function.
Kathy Van Ness, COO and GM of Golden Door, said, "We know in today's hectic high-stress world, the benefits of reducing stress and the elimination of toxins is the key to longevity. Our bathhouse is an integral part of our wellness programming. Reimagining the look and feel, and bringing in new technologies will enhance our guests' experience."
