The Therme Group has appointed Robert Hammond as president and chief strategy officer for Therme North America. Therme Group is a collection of well-being resort properties with locations in the UK, mainland Europe, North America and Asia Pacific.

Previously, Hammond worked for over two decades as cofounder and executive director of Friends of the High Line, where he led the transformation of an abandoned elevated railway line in Manhattan into an iconic urban park.

At Therme, Hammond will oversee the development of products and programming for the company's expansion into the US. Therme is specifically focusing on an initial group of major US metropolitan areas, including New York City, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Dallas and Houston, with additional locations to be announced.

"Given Robert's experience revitalizing overlooked spaces into critical pieces of civic infrastructure, we're thrilled that he will bring his visionary approach to Therme," said John H. Alschuler, executive chairman of Therme North America. "Robert's stewardship in creating experiences that people across the world are excited to participate in is a testament to his ability to connect communities to our urban environment. As the world emerges from the last 18 months of isolation and virtual connections, we're eager to bring the accessible, affordable experience that Therme offers to our corner of the world."

Hammond is slated to begin his role at Therme in April 2022.
