As we continue through the year, it's clear that certain wellness trends have become more solidified while others may be waning. And there's no better way to stay up to date than on trade show floors, where spa and wellness brands display their latest and greatest offerings!
The 2024 ISPA Conference was no exception, as we not only learned about important industry data and connected with fellow spa pros, but were able to check out emerging trends as we walked the exhibit hall. This trend update is taken straight from the ISPA show floor, where we found five unique retail offerings that go beyond skin care to elevate your boutique and boost your bottom line.
1. Luxury Loungewear
While athleisure has long been the standard in retail apparel, savvy spas are now elevating their clothing racks with luxury loungewear. The available options are seemingly limitless, with popular items including tank tops, joggers, wide-leg pants, jumpsuits, hoodies, robes—even intimates!
Made with super soft materials like washable silk, fluffy yarn and microfiber, these apparel items both look and feel especially luxe, coming in a variety of chic prints and elegant solids. They also appeal to a range of guests and what they're shopping for, whether they're working from home, indulging in self-care or simply want to sleep comfortably.
2. Pillow Mists
It seemed almost every brand had a pillow mist to share, and with good reason! Quality sleep is one of the most in-demand and much-needed aspects of health and wellness, and our industry has taken note. As sleep-promoting treatments gain popularity in the spa, clients must ultimately work on their "sleep hygiene" at home.
That's why pillow mists are such a natural fit for your retail shelves. They seamlessly tie into spa and wellness offerings, thanks to calming aromatherapeutic blends featuring lavender, chamomile, juniper, moonflower and more. Plus, spritzing a little relaxation across your pillow appeals to pretty much anyone visiting the spa.
3. Wearable Aromatherapy
Speaking of aromatherapy, essential oils and the spa go hand in hand—but it's always fun to see how brands consistently come up with new applications. This year did not disappoint, with wearable aromatherapy options like nose rings and roll-ons, as well as a range of jewelry with its own set of varying options.
What works for your spa will depend on your clientele, but luckily there is something for everyone:
- Essential oil roll-ons blended to address specific intentions, like tranquility or abundance,
- Necklaces and earrings with volcanic beads, perfect for absorbing and diffusing a chosen aromatherapy blend,
- Chic bracelets made of a leather-like material that also absorbs and diffuses any blend,
- Fragrance mists featuring aromatherapy rather than perfumes.
This is the type of retail offering tailor made for the spa and wellness space, as it's the perfect combination of luxury and serenity. Include your own custom scent, and you'll have a walking advertisement for your business, too.
4. Retail for Kids
One noticeable (and super cute) trend on the ISPA floor was options for kids. Whether it was mini versions of luxe sweaters, pants and dresses, linens and blankets, or gentle sunscreen for their sensitive skin, children's products were more heavily featured than in previous years. While it's unlikely that little kids are your current clientele, their parents most certainly are, so it makes sense to include such options in your retail area.
It's also a smart move for resorts with kids' programming and day spas alike, because no mom can resist a tiny version of her own comfy loungewear! If you don't think your clients will be quick to grab matching outfits for the family, you'll still benefit from including a specially formulated SPF for the little ones, especially during summer.
5. Silk Accessories
Finally, silk was all the rage this year. We already know that silk loungewear and pajamas were the order of the day, but we also saw plenty of other silk options for enhancing the skin and body, including:
- Soft silk eye masks,
- Silk scrunchies for hair,
- Silk pillows and pillowcases that support skin health.
These can all tie in with pillow mists, as well, and any one of them will add a sense of luxury to your retail shelves. Remind guests that, in addition to being a fine fabric, silk is also great for preventing moisture loss, wrinkles and acne in the skin, as well as minimizing hair frizziness and damage. For clients looking to really elevate their home care regimens, you can tell them that silk is the way to go!
