On Sunday, October 11, about 180 people braved Los Angeles’ unseasonably hot weather to gather at the SLS Beverly Hills to support OPI and the Look Good Feel Better (LGFB) program. The free, public-service initiative, which is made possible in the U.S. through a national collaboration with the Personal Care Products Council Foundation, the American Cancer Society and the Professional Beauty Association, helps women with cancer learn to cope with the appearance side effects of treatment.

Attendees included media representatives, local LGFB supporters, OPI and parent company Coty Inc. employees, plus family members and friends affected by cancer. As guests arrived, they had their photo taken on the pink carpet before taking refuge in the air-conditioned hotel for chair massages by Spa Connections and OPI manicures that showcased the pink hues in the nail brand’s Infinite Shine and other collections.

Outside on the patio, refreshments from the likes of ONEHOPE Wine and Pinkberry froyo kept the crowd cool. As well as entering a raffle to win beauty products, invitees had the opportunity to custom-create wristlets and combs at the Fleurish DIY flower station, and fashion crystal-studded bracelets from Swarovski.

The event also offered the chance for guests to learn more about the LGFB program. Mary Burns, vice president of U.S. marketing, OPI Products, introduced the speakers, among them Louanne Roark, executive director of the Personal Care Products Council Foundation and Look Good Feel Better, and Emmy-nominated TV personality Samantha Harris, who spoke movingly about her personal battle with breast cancer. She urged the rapt audience to be their own health advocates, and talked about her positive-thinking website, Gotta Make Lemonade.

In addition, the shindig raised awareness of and engagement in LGFB’s new #HelpBetterBegin social media campaign, which captures on video the stories of women in the midst of cancer treatment as they undergo Look Good Feel Better transformations. Videos can be viewed here.
