According to Amy Robbins, PsyD, director of mental health at BIÂN Chicago, there are five mental health tools and philosophies will be popular among consumers and spa-goers in 2022.
- Trauma-Informed Therapy - It is important that a patient feel like they have a voice in their treatment, and they must feel safe in the therapeutic setting regardless of the modality being implemented. A positive therapeutic relationship is key a successful treatment plan.
- Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy - Remember that the emphasis is on "assisted," meaning substances are used as additional means to address psychological issues. These substances are not curative in their own right, but with professional help and proper dosage, they have the potential to help people with some treatment-resistant mental illnesses.
- Healthy Boundaries and Social Media - It's true for most people that they need healthy boundaries around social media. Separation from devices, even for a short period of time, can help reduce the compulsion to constantly check social media feeds. "Social media is designed to be addictive, so we have to make very deliberate choices in terms of how we are stepping away from it," added Dr. Robbins.
- Telehealth Services - During the pandemic, many patients found the convenience of seeing their therapist from the comforts of their home to be a positive experience. It saves time by cutting out commutes, not to mention that it creates an ease of access that previously wasn't there.
- Disorders on a Spectrum - Part of being human is that we all experience mental and emotional struggles on a spectrum. It is helpful to think about where disorders fall on a spectrum of severity and how to move along the spectrum depending on what people are facing.
