We sat down with Alma Curry, author at Meridian Fitness and Spa, who shares her insights into the five best spa treatments post-workout.
1. Aromatherapy Massage
Aromatherapy can be used not only for relaxation, but for relieving muscle soreness. When used in massage therapy, it helps with pain relief and mood enhancement as well.
There are plenty of essential oils that help soothe the mind and guests' muscles, including:
- Chamomile
- Ginger
- Orange
- Peppermint
- Tea tree
- Lavender
- Cedarwood
- Geranium
2. Sauna & Steam
Although stretching is standard before and after a workout, the muscles often retain some tension and soreness. About 15-20 minutes in the spa's sauna or steam room is ideal for melting that tension away.

Not only do steam and sauna sessions soften sore muscles, they also improve circulation, loosen stiff joints and open the sinuses—definitely part of a holistic wellness approach to recovery and beyond.
3. Vichy Shower
A gentle massage option, a soothing Vichy shower session helps restore the body after exercise via precipitation from five to seven vertical shower heads. It feels wonderful and can both revive the senses while soothing sore muscles.

For more intense workouts, hydrotherapy options are ideal for addressing and supporting recovery. Popular—and effective—hydrotherapy offerings include watsu treatments, hot/cold plunge circuits and mineral baths. Guests can choose based on their needs and preferences.
