1. What ingredients do you see trending in wellness treatments right now?
-Lauren Snow, LE, Director of Brand Management & Communications for Circadia: I am seeing more brands seek ingredients that focus on blocking environmental pollution that includes blue light (digital pollution) in their formulations.
-Melissa Morris, Director of East Coast Education for Pevonia: Products and treatments infused with chocolate are in high demand for spas offering wellness treatments. In addition to their delicious aroma, chocolate boasts antioxidant power, is rejuvenating, protecting and remineralizing. Moreover, chocolate contains minerals and vitamins A, B1, C, D and E, all of which help prevent and reduce the breakdown of collagen and elastin in the skin.
-Merry Thornton, PA-C, Founder of Element Medical Aesthetics: In the aesthetics space, we are seeing a lot of products with exosomes which are extra-cellular vesicles generated by cells. They contain proteins, lipids, growth factors and nucleic acids and transmit signals to cells to regenerate the skin, increase collagen and elastin production, aid in wound healing and improve pigmentation issues.
-Rachel Lee Lozina, Founder of Blue Water Spa: Snail Mucin is a hot skin care ingredient because it contains glycoproteins, hyaluronic acid, glycolic acid and peptides which are potent anti-aging ingredients.

-Szilvia Hickman, President of Szép Élet: Clinical studies show that retinal works 11 times faster than retinol. This does not only mean faster results in smoothing wrinkles, lightening hyperpigmentation or clearing out acne, but also less possible irritation in the skin. Retinal is also the retinoid that has antibacterial effect, hence very beneficial for acne or inflammation prone skin types.
-Natalie Sischy, CEO of Province Apothecary: Bakuchiol is having a moment. It’s such an effective retinol alternative.
-Angela Eriksen, Director of Education & Marketing for Phytomer USA: More and more, consumers want to use products and ingredients that are good for them and that they can feel good about, so selecting goods and services that are made in ecologically and socially responsible ways is trending. Ingredients from raw materials that are sustainably or organically grown and then harvested ethically benefit the overall wellness of the guest and that of the planet.
-Natalie Pergar, Lead Skin Care Trainer of Éminence Organic Skin Care: Currently, I see acids trending in spa treatments. More specifically, polyhydroxy acids (PHAs) have become more popular in recent years. PHAs are less irritating than other acids, making them perfect for clients with sensitive or dry skin. Algae is gaining traction in skin care because it delivers a high concentration of beneficial nutrients, minerals and amino acids to the skin while effectively reducing the appearance of fine lines and improving hydration.
