What is your favorite part about the wellness industry?
The people. I have had the good fortune of working with some of the most talented practitioners around the globe. Each and every individual brings their unique gifts into the room. I find joy in helping to create these opportunities and witnessing guests’ deep expressions of gratitude.
What wellness trends do you see emerging in the industry?
First, I’m noticing a focus on aging well, rather than anti-aging. I imagine we will see more services and programs designed to embrace maturity and development.
Outdoor gyms and open spaces with innovative installations are growing in popularity for movement and exercise.
Waterless pedicures are also on the rise. This is a service SpaHalekulani has offered guests for years. The zero-gravity chairs alleviate pressure on the low back, and they allow for the best hygiene. With the current change in climate, my hope is that these types of services will begin to trend.
Lastly, naps are sure to make a comeback!
What is your favorite healthy recipe?
Medjool dates stuffed with goat cheese and topped with walnuts—the perfect combination of sweet, savory and crunch.
What is on the horizon for Halekulani?
Our new luxury facility will open in late 2023, offering unique experiences from arrival to departure. SpaHalekulani will feature a Japanese Furo, along with steam and rain showers. The full salon will return, and our boutique will showcase the finest skin care, apparel and accessories to support the Art of Wellbeing—our wellness concept focusing on six pillars: Nourish, Move, Explore, Discover, Rest and Renew—for an elevated lifestyle.
What is your greatest accomplishment?
Raising two beacons of light, my sons Kahi and Manoa.
What is a dream that you have always hoped to achieve?
Where do I begin? My dreams are endless. The one that I’ve had the longest is that I want to open a bed and brunch located on a tropical island, with guest bungalows, bach yoga, a massage hale and live entertainment. It will be a place for travelers to find respite and people of the community to connect—brunch, pupus and spirits served with love!
