How did you get started in the industry?
I was working at the Estee Lauder Companies European office in charge of their designer fragrance brands and the men’s skin care brand Lab Series. I met my wife at a wedding in Germany; she and her kids lived in the Miami area and BABOR Americas had an opening. The rest was fate.
What’s your top retail tip for spa professionals?
Don’t be afraid to give advice.
Your guests are looking for your expertise and expecting your guidance.
What is your greatest accomplishment?
Navigating the challenges of the pandemic and its associated restrictions.
We were able to reinvent our business model and maintain revenues overall, allowing us to keep our entire team fully employed, expand support to our partners and even give back by donating 1.65 million meals through Feeding America.
What’s in the pipeline for BABOR?
We are making our brand cleaner and more sustainable than it already was. We are thrilled about launching the 8D Hyaluronic Acid Ampoule; a clean, oil-free cosmeceutical gel cream; and a relaunch of BABOR makeup that marries key ingredients of our Ampoule Serum Concentrates with our compatible foundations.
What advice do you have for pros just getting started?
Be open, agile and think about the guest experience. You only have one chance to make a first impression, so it’s important that you really indulge your customers’ preferences.
Do have sustainability tips for spa professionals?
Every contribution helps, no matter how small. Consumers and spa professionals can positively impact the environment by partnering with brands that operate ethically and sustainably. We must all work together to make a difference.
What is your guilty pleasure?
I love a good glass of tequila and binge watching my favorite TV shows with my wife, Eleni.
What wellness trends do you see emerging?
Looking to the future, I see a more integrated and comprehensive approach to wellness emerging, including clinical modalities and mental wellness. The BABOR Expert Method is a holistic experience for guests that includes five treatment elements, including boosting skin’s circulation and metabolic activity, enhancing its natural physiology and detoxification process, increasing lymphatic drainage and more. Wellness is not just your body, but your mind and your soul. Our goal is to provide products that bring peace to our consumers and help them live their best lives. Feeling comfortable in your own skin is empowering, and optimal skin health also contributes to one’s mental health.
