Spa Connection and San Diego-based beauty institute Bellus Academy joined forces for a Great Gatspy-themed event on the high seas.
Some 100 spa directors and 20 spa suppliers attended the three-hour yacht cruise along the San Diego coast. The guests’ retro cocktail attire was the perfect complement to the yacht, festively named High Spirits, and its Prohibiton-era decór and antique furnishings.
The event allowed spa vendors and industry professionals to come together for an evening of networking and delicious cuisine and cocktails. “The event was very well attended,” says Scott Duncan, general manager of Spa Gregories and co-founder of Spa Connection. “We had to turn people away because of space requirements.” Vendors including Éminence, Coola, Phytomer, Morrocanoil and Sanítas Skincare were on hand to talk up their lines’ latest and greatest offerings to potential clients.
“I think exclusive networking events such as this are an ideal way to bring together spa professionals and promote a sense of community,” says Duncan. “Ten years ago there wasn’t much camaraderie. People were caught up in the competitive nature of the business and didn’t share ideas. They were just trying to succeed on their own. These days I see a much tighter network of professionals who are not just counterparts, but also friends.”
