In cold weather, blood vessels constrict, slowing circulation and potentially causing issues like muscle aches, cramps, coldness in the hands and feet, digestive issues and distracting numbness.

Fitness expert and lifestyle coach Andrea Marcellus recommends two types of foods to improve circulation, which will help you and your guests support health holistically during winter.

Vasodilators relax blood vessels, allowing for better blood flow. Foods high in antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties and omega-3's are necessary. This includes spices like cayenne pepper, cinnamon, turmeric and garlic, as well as whole foods like onions, walnuts, citrus fruits, berries and leafy greens.

Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors reduce the activity of ACE, which constricts blood vessels. The best options are ginger and tomato, which contain ACE inhibitors that help lower blood pressure.
