When an ESPA opened in 2009 at the new Phulay Bay Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Thailand, it would have been easy for spa management to simply rely on the exotic allure of this luxury resort, set between the azure Andaman Sea and a stunning tropical forest. But that’s not the ESPA way.

From the fitness-minded wellness studio to the holistic Thai treatments, the aim here is to restore guests’ bodies, minds and spirits. The RAW spa café, opened in August, is just the latest advance in that mission, providing natural, non-alcoholic cocktails that boost the immune system while also complementing specific spa services.

The Balancing drink (cucumber, tomato and orange), for instance, is touted as “ideal after your balancing facial”; while the Reviver (featured here) is “the best way to recover after jet lag treatments.” The RAW concept “is not to reinvent spa food or drinks,” says Phulay Bay’s general manager Estelita Sebeto. “Rather, it’s to put freshness back in the body after the freshness received outside the body with spa treatments.”
