In January 2025, one of London’s exclusive boutique hotels — The Mandrake — will open its new sensory-immersive Damu Spa to the public. The multi-award-winning, luxury lifestyle location sits in the heart of London’s Fitzrovia.

“The feeling guests will leave with, will be euphoric and the addition of the spa to the hotel extends our existing creative ethos and core holistic values,” says Rami Fustok, founder and owner of The Mandrake. “There are spas in many hotels and The Mandrake always strives for innovation and creativity, and I believe Damu will deliver just that.”

The spa will open to the public and on-site hotel guests to experience a “journey of rejuvenation and renewal” blending cutting-edge technology with timeless spa services.

To ensure the spa services are relaxing, quiet, and intimate, the 700-square-meter spa will house a maximum of 12 guests at any time. Damu’s team partnered with immersive design studio, Metaspheric, and wellness technology company, Wavess, to create the all-encompassing spa approach.

As part of the spa experience, guests can explore a unique “physical and mental massage” hydrotherapy service through a brand-new sensorial wellness technology known as the Wavess Origin Pool.

"I’m thrilled to unveil the world’s first “Origin Tank” — a transformative portal that immerses guests in rejuvenating, low-frequency vibrational waves carried through a mineral- and salt-infused water medium,” says Fustok. “This unique experience is enhanced by chromotherapy, casting healing colors across the water, and an immersive three-dimensional sound journey — all designed to gently envelop and recharge the mind, body, and soul. Together, these elements will leave guests in a profound state of relaxation, bliss, and inner harmony."

The open pool aims to simulate the human body’s earliest sensory experiences — the womb — by floating in vibrational water at body temperature and near zero gravity. Two people can float together, creating a shared special time in the wellness pool. The Wavess Wellness pool – made exclusively for The Mandrake - uses water haptics technology to make the entire body of water vibrate with sound at low frequencies.

In addition to the wellness pool service, guests may also choose to book a range of aesthetic services, including the use of LED phototherapy and Derma-pen microneedling collagen stimulation therapy.

Before a pool float or mud rasul service, guests may relax in the spa’s Tranquility Room where greenery stretches into the skylight. The spa’s landscape architect, Bas Smets, incorporated eye-catching plants — like Bird of Paradise, Beach Spider Lily, and Maidenhair Fern — throughout the room to envelop guests into a hammock of calming greenery.

The spa gets its namesake from Damu, a predominant Sumerian God of healing, rebirth, and medicinal plants. This same Sumerian God is also widely associated with transformation and transition, a goal of the Damu Spa staff of 10 who will serve guests throughout their time on site.

Guests can also try the traditional Middle Eastern practice of rasul in the dark, candlelit antechamber. Spa-goers can try various algae and salt scrubs, along with Austrian Alps-sourced mud enhanced with ethnobotanical extracts. Couples are invited to explore the steam room and two rain showers.

“I am delighted we are finally opening our Damu spa,” says Fustok. “We have done extensive global research and trials to create what will be a world’s first treatment, like no other.”
