Carillon’s Touchless Wellness division was created in 2020 to keep guests safe while providing innovative health benefits. A selection of high-tech therapies address concerns like anti-aging, muscle recovery, sleep health, anxiety, weight loss, respiratory health, PTSD, stress management and more. Offerings include The Somadome, Prism Light Pod, VEMI, halotherapy and infrared, among others. In spring 2022, the spa launched an additional six treatments including Soli-Lite, Dermashape, NuCalm, StimaWell, HBS HIEMT Body Shape and BallancerPro.

WellSpa 360 recently sat down with Tammy Pahel, vice president of spa and wellness operations at Carillon Miami Wellness Resort, to learn more about the spa’s secrets to success in the wellness space.
How do you stay competitive in your area?
Aside from having the largest spa on the Eastern Seaboard, we go above and beyond the standard massage and facial offerings. Carillon Miami works with experts to provide a variety of different experiences under one roof, from thermal hydrotherapy to cupping to sex and relationship therapy, plus more than 65 fitness classes per week. Our spa and wellness experiences bring a unique and comprehensive mixture of Western, Eastern, alternative and aesthetic medicine for custom treatment plans and impactful results.
We pride ourselves on keeping a pulse on the latest technology and research in the industry, and we are constantly offering new innovations for our guests and members.
How do you hire and train quality staff?
Carillon builds relationships with local esthetic and massage schools where they recommend their top graduates to us. We also use an external women-owned staffing company that understands the importance of heart connections in the spa industry; they have recommended therapists with Leading Hotels of the World and Fine Hotels of the World training. With expert staff, we are able to optimize the caliber of spa treatments we can provide. For every position at Carillon Miami, we offer training manuals that include Forbes, Leading Hotels of the World and Fine Hotels and Resort standards.
What is your most unique wellness offering?
Our most unique wellness offerings are the Touchless Wellness Circuits, where guests can experience innovative touchless therapies in guided sequences to aid them on their path to optimal health. Examples include:
- Anxiety & Stress Relief Circuit ($539): 25 minutes Halotherapy + Infrared, 30 minutes Salt Float Bath Therapy, 25 minutes VEMI and 20 minutes Somadome.
- Muscle Recovery Circuit ($349): 3 minutes Everest Full Body Electric Cryo, 15 minutes Prism Light Pod, 25 minutes Halotherapy + Infrared, 30 minutes Salt
- Float Bath Therapy, 25 minutes VEMI and 20 minutes Somadome.
- Sleep Well Circuit ($299): 25 minutes VEMI, 30 minutes Salt Float Bath Therapy, 30 minutes Spa Wave and 20 minutes Somadome.
- Weight Loss Circuit (350): 45 minutes Cryo One Slimming/Toning, 15 minutes Prism Light Pod, 25 minutes Halotherapy + Infrared and 20 minutes Somadome.
How are you retaining repeat clients?
We retain guests by always providing a seamless wellness experience. Carillon Miami offers circuits that can bookmark traditional spa treatments and create a personalized schedule, encouraging guests to experience “wellness your way.” We target clients from all over the country, but 50% of our revenue actually comes from the local community. Our on-site wellness concierges are available to help clients craft their perfect wellness itinerary with treatments, therapies and classes chosen for their specific needs. Following each visit, the wellness concierges also make themselves available for follow-up questions and recommendations.
What is your most popular wellness offering?
Our most popular offering is VEMI, which stands for VibroAcoustic ElectroMagnetic and Infrared therapy. This all-in-one touchless therapy uses healing sound resonance in tandem with full-body vibrations, natural earth frequencies and infrared for an unbelievable mind-body-spirit experience that is only reached in deep meditation. The VEMI grounds the body, eliminates the effects caused by electro-smog radiation, and recharges and detoxifies all the cells in the body. This balances all the body’s systems for ultimate rejuvenation.
What is most important for running a successful wellness facility?
Certain steps are invaluable, like developing a skilled team that shares in your wellness vision, being the voice of wellness to your community, being authentic and true to yourself, being open-minded to learning new ideas, and participating in wellness conferences to expand your knowledge of trends and ever-changing technologies. At the end of the day, my greatest asset is my intense passion for spa and wellness. I genuinely love what I do and strive to make Carillon Miami better every day.
Creating a spa and wellness business model that is financially sustainable is also key to long-term success. With all the ups and downs of the industry, and uncertainty of Covid, we have to be more visionary and determine what will allow the business to continue, no matter what unforeseen challenges are ahead.
How do you stay up to date with the latest industry trends and changes?
Carillon Miami is always a trendsetter in the industry. For example, we launched touchless wellness treatments in July 2020, and they are now a growing trend in the US. I’m constantly engaged and value evolution within the spa, wellness and hospitality industries. I’m always looking for new product developments and industry relationships, am an active participant in events and avid speaker on spa and wellness panels. Additionally, I’m a proud member of Global Wellness Summit, Global Wellness Ambassador, Global Wellness Initiatives: Sleep Well Research, International Spa Association, Miami Beach Chamber, Miami Dade College Virtual Hospitality Conference, Greater Miami Beach Hotel Association/SHC Sustainable & Wellness Council, Miami-Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber, South Florida Country Club Association Annual Conference, Florida Spa Association and Southeast Spa Wellness Association.
