Big things are happening in the world of wellness and spa. We've got all the opening announcements, award winners and brand additions that you should know.

1. Texas Humane Legislation Network Honors FarmHouse Fresh

FarmHouse Fresh has been awarded the "2024 Humane Hero" honor on behalf of the Texas Humane Legislation Network (THLN). The award is especially unique, as this is the first business to receive this award - which is given to an individual or institution exhibiting exceptional leadership, compassion and commitment to animal welfare. FarmHouse Fresh has demonstrated this through its overall animal rescue initiatives.

FarmHouse Fresh’s philanthropic mission of ‘Skincare that Saves’ ensures the company uses profits from every product sale to fund, rescue and rehabilitate abused and neglected farm animals – many who come to live at the company’s 501(c)3 non-profit Animal Sanctuary located at the FarmHouse Fresh Ranch Headquarters in McKinney, TX. Annually, FarmHouse Fresh donates 10%-15% of all profits to its animal rescue mission. The FarmHouse Fresh Farm Animal Sanctuary is currently home to 53 horses, donkeys, ponies, goats, and sheep, which have been rescued from abuse, neglect and slaughter.

Over five years ago the company started its “Track Your Batch” program which places a trackable batch code on every product. Customers can enter the code into the store’s website and see and read about the animals who benefited. Every product purchased from FarmHouse Fresh makes an immediate difference, helping the farm stay fully equipped with supplies such as hay and grain, along with 24-hour veterinary care and medical expenses for the animals living out their lives at the sanctuary.

“We are deeply grateful to receive the Humane Hero Award,” says Shannon McLinden, CEO and co-founder of FarmHouse Fresh. “This recognition reflects our commitment to creating skin care products that not only enhance natural beauty, but also prioritize the well-being of animals. Our mission has always been to promote kindness, sustainability, and ethical practices, and this award inspires us to continue pushing boundaries for a brighter, more compassionate future."

2. Boulevard Adds New Features to Spas Grow

Boulevard announced the addition of new automated client referral functionality. This new set of automated capabilities helps salons, spas, medspas, and barbershops harness the power of word-of-mouth referrals to drive client acquisition. With Boulevard’s new automated client referral functionality, self-care businesses can create and execute a program that automatically applies custom discounts and rewards to new and referring client accounts.

“For even the most successful self-care businesses in the world, client acquisition is an ongoing challenge,” said Jozlyn Miller, education manager for Boulevard. “While most self-care business owners and operators have little time and budget to spend on new client acquisition, what they do have is an abundance of clients who love them. With its new automated client referral capabilities, Boulevard is making it easier for them to channel that love into new opportunities to grow their business.”

Businesses can set up email or text blast campaigns directly within the Boulevard platform to promote their referral program to existing clients. Clients receive a unique booking link they can quickly and easily share with their friends and networks offering a discount on their first appointment. The discount is automatically applied whenever the first appointment is booked. The referring client is then automatically rewarded with an account credit directly within Boulevard once the initial appointment is complete. Boulevard also provides detailed reports to help owners and operators keep tabs on the ROI of their client referral program.

5. The Landings Resort and Spa Debuts Oncology Aesthetics Program

The Landings Resort and Spa announced the launch of its Oncology Aesthetics Program, becoming the first spa in the Caribbean and the fourth in the Americas to partner with Ricardo Fisas Natura Bissé Foundation and offer specialized aesthetic skin care treatments for individuals undergoing oncology therapy.

This advancement has been made possible through the non-profit’s dedication to expert-led education programs for spa professionals navigating the complexities of cancer through specialized oncology skin and hair care solutions. Following a thorough in-person training, which began in October, the spa will offer tailored spa treatments for visitors currently being treated for cancer as well as those in remission or post-treatment.

“Our mission is to create a sanctuary where individuals affected by cancer receive personalized care that nurtures both their physical and emotional well-being,” said Marjorie Knowles, spa director at The Landings Resort and Spa. “We are incredibly proud that our team of therapists is uniquely qualified to deliver treatments that not only rejuvenate the skin, but also uplift the spirit."

Upon arrival, a compassionate and extensive intake process will create an environment where guests feel understood. The trained staff dedicate this time to reviewing all aspects of the guest’s cancer story to customize a treatment that will most effectively address all oncology-related side effects and symptoms. With expertise in both psycho-oncology and its physical affects, the provider’s modifications to accommodate medical considerations may include adjusting service dates in alignment with chemotherapy or radiation cycles, massage pressure, areas of focus across the body and recommended products.

The spa’s treatments offered for this program include Pre or Post Radiation Comfort skin treatment, Soothing Scalp experience, Restore and Replenish Body Hydration and more. With new research leading doctors to encourage the benefits of spa services from the emotional rejuvenation of a massage to facials that rebuild the skin barrier broken down during radiation, the program applies evidence-based practices that support both physical healing and mental well-being.
