U.S. Spa Revenue, Visits and Employment Are Rising!

The spa industry is on the rise in annual revenue, locations, visitors, revenue per visit and employment. This great news was announced at the annual conference for the International SPA Association (ISPA). 

The ISPA Foundation commissions PwC annually to conduct the U.S. Spa Industry Study, which provides a snapshot of the industry’s health through five key metrics: overall revenue, total spa visits, number of spa locations, revenue per visit and spa industry employment. Below is a snapshot of the “Big Five” statistics, all showing growth in 2024.

  • Overall revenue climbed 5.8%, going from $21.3 billion in 2023 to $22.5 billion in 2024.
  • Total spa visits increased 3.1%.going from 182 million in 2023 to 187 million in 2024. That is an impressive increase in 5 million visits.
  • The number of spa locations grew 0.6%, going from 21,840 in 2023 to to 21,980 in 2024.
  • Revenue per visit rose 2.6%, going from $117.20 in 2023 to $120.30 in 2024.
  • Total spa industry employment expanded 1.6%, going from 370,100in 2023 to  376,200 as of January 2025.

Colin from PwC also noted that spas are investing in their properties. He added that 30% of properties surveyed noted they had renovated their retail and 25% noted that they renovated their treatment rooms.

"Another year of rising revenue and guest visits reflects a thriving spa industry, creating opportunities for businesses and spa professionals alike," said ISPA president Lynne McNees. “By adapting to consumer demand for exceptional wellness experiences and prioritizing innovation and guest satisfaction, the industry has achieved steady growth across every key indicator while continuing to rebuild after the Covid pandemic."
