What wellness trends do you seeing emerging?
I’ve been seeing the incorporation of mushrooms and adaptogens into many wellness and spa practices. Adaptogens have emerged as superstar ingredients, as they are believed to adapt their benefits to meet the needs of each individual’s body. The Éminence Pure Forest Collection, which featured our snow mushroom and reishi products for example, was inspired by the Japanese practice of “shinrin-yoku,” meaning forest bathing or taking in the forest atmosphere. This practice is rooted in the belief that immersing oneself in nature can positively impact physical and mental health and wellness. Stressors from environmental pollution, digital pollution and our fast-paced modern lifestyles create barriers to the natural world and can wreak havoc on our skin and health. The practice of using nature to cure and mitigate against mental and physical ill health has been a notable wellness trend.
How do you work to reduce your carbon footprint in your daily life?
Truthfully, this is something I continue to work on. I do have a number of practices that have now become second nature: I’m very rarely without a reusable bag, and I’m consistently surprised at how often they come in handy! When I’m online shopping, I really appreciate companies that provide options at checkout allowing you to offset your carbon footprint or opt for less packaging.
What’s one thing you can’t leave the house without?
Easy! Lip balm. I’m obsessed. If you looked in my purse, my desk drawer, my car or my house, you’ll find lip balm. In addition to Éminence Citrus Lip Balm, I’m a huge fan of Hurraw vegan and organic Earl Grey Lip Balm.
What is your greatest accomplishment?
I’m certainly proud of the volunteer work I’ve done and continue to do. Working as a consultant for Dress for Success has been incredibly rewarding. I’ve received letters from women sharing that those interactions have given them newfound confidence, and it’s such an honor to be part of something like that.
I would also have to say that my biggest accomplishment is the friends and coworkers I’ve surrounded myself with. My circle comprises some of the kindest, most loyal, charming, genuine and talented people one could hope to meet.
How did you get started in the industry?
Marketing and communications has been a passion of mine for years, and I’ve had the pleasure of working in a number of different industries. Five years ago, I was given the opportunity to work for Éminence Organic Skin Care and I’ve never looked back! I absolutely love this industry—everything from formulations and packaging to understanding what motivates consumers to invest in their skin care routine. It’s also a fun challenge to take practices from other industries (such as travel and tourism) and apply those to skin care and wellness.
What’s your favorite type of skin care product?
I love anything hydrating! Especially during the cold and dry winter months, serums, masks and moisturizers are my go-to products. I use the Éminence Marine Flower Peptide Serum daily to keep my skin plump and hydrated, and once a week I use the Strawberry Rhubarb Masque to replenish and nourish my skin. I swear it smells exactly like a strawberry milkshake!
